CASTROL® GTX HIGH MILEAGE MEGA MILES OFFICIAL RULES
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN, NOR WILL A PURCHASE IMPROVE ONE’S CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID IN PUERTO RICO, OUTSIDE THE U.S., AND WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.
1. Eligibility/Entries: You must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of entry and a legal United States resident (excluding residents of Puerto Rico). Contest is open to licensed owners of the vehicle submitted. Vehicle must have over 75,000 miles and be titled and registered in the entrant’s name. Vehicle must be mechanically sound and functioning. Proof of this may be a condition of winning a prize. The following persons are not eligible to participate: employees of BP Lubricants USA, Inc., or any of their subsidiaries, affiliates, sales representatives, distributors, advertising and promotion agencies, members of each of their immediate families (spouses, parents, grandparents, children and siblings, and their respective spouses) and those living in the same household of each. Contest begins on April 1, 2008, and ends on August 31, 2008. Entrants agree to be bound by the terms of these Official Rules.
2. This contest requires the submission of an essay and photo to participate. To enter, go to http://www.castrol.com/megamiles and follow the directions to submit your essay and photo. By entering this Contest, entrants give their express permission to be contacted by Sponsor via telephone, e-mail and/or postal mail and to have their entry, if selected as a Grand Prize Winner, Finalists or Honorable Mention, displayed on the Castrol website for the purpose of public judging and/or viewing without any additional compensation.
Each entry submitted through the Castrol website must be submitted between the dates of April 1, 2008 and August 31, 2008 inclusive. All entries become the property of the Sponsor, may be used on the Castrol website and will not be acknowledged or returned.
3. ESSAY FORMAT AND RULES: Essay must address the following topic. In 500 words or less, tell us about your vehicle, how much mileage it has, and why it deserves a makeover. Essay may be in English or Spanish, must be the original work of the entrant, must not violate any copyright or other rights, and must not have been previously published.
4. JUDGING AND AWARDING OF PRIZES: Three (3) Winning essays will be selected on the basis of originality, creativity, relevance to pride in and passion about your vehicle, and photographic evidence. Points for each of these categories will be awarded as follows. Originality and creativity will count for 50%, relevance to pride in and passion about your vehicle 25 % and photographic evidence 25%. Essays will be judged by BP Lubricants USA, Promotions Etc. and qualified writing professionals. Decisions of these judges are final. The judges will select the top three (3) essays based on point totals to be displayed on the Castrol website for consumers to vote for their choice in helping determine the Grand Prize Winner. The Top 3 Finalists will be notified on or about September 15, 2008. Finalists will be notified by mail and will be required to fill out and return an Affidavit of Liability/Publicity release. The Grand Prize Winner will be determined by the on-line voting. Voting will take between October 15, 2008 and November 15, 2008. Voting is on-line at www.castrol.com/megamiles. The Grand Prize Winner will be announced on or about December 1, 2008.
5. PRIZES: The Grand Prize Winner will receive an automotive renovation valued at $25,000 for the vehicle described in the essay and $6,000 cash which may be applied to applicable taxes and/or cost of a rental vehicle during the renovation TOTAL APR. $31,000. The makeover is intended to primarily restore the appearance of the vehicle’s exterior and interior to its former glory. In consultation with the winner, some mechanical improvements or upgrades may be made or audio, communication, or navigational elements added. Non-cosmetic work will not exceed 80% of the scope of the renovation. The engine will not be replaced. The value of the renovations does not indicate an increase in the value of the vehicle. The Second Place Winner will receive a $750 gift certificate for automotive electronics. The Third Place Winner will receive a $150 gift certificate for vehicle electronics. The three (3) Finalists will each receive a Prize package of a one year supply of Castrol GTX High Mileage (4 cases) APR $95, a Castrol GTX High Mileage hat APR $8 and jacket APR $65. The Prize package is valued at $168. (10) Honorable Mention will receive a T-shirt and hat APR $40. Total APR of all prizes is $32,804.
6. Prize Acceptance: Promotions Etc. will provide assistance to the winner in evaluating the vehicle and providing a vendor to complete the makeover. The vendor will provide to BP Lubricants for review a list of the proposed modifications. BP Lubricants reserves the right of final approval on any modifications made to the Grand Prize Winner’s vehicle. Grand Prize Winner must sign off on the proposed modifications before work will commence. Sponsors reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if advertised prize is unavailable. Prize is not transferable, or assignable. No prize substitutions, except as provided herein. All taxes, including federal, state and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners. Winners will be issued an IRS 1099 tax form (winners are advised to seek independent counsel regarding prize winnings). Winners must sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release and provide Social Security number, except where prohibited. Releases must be returned within seven (7) days of notification, or prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner selected. By accepting prize, winners grant Sponsors, and their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, sales representatives, distributors, and advertising and promotional agencies (“Sponsors and their agents”) the right to use and publish winner’s essay, runner-ups essay and honorable mention essays, proper name, state of residence and likenesses for advertising and promotional purposes on-line and in print, or in any other media worldwide in connection with the Contest, without limitation and without additional compensation, except where prohibited. By accepting prize, winners agree to release Sponsors and their agents, and each of their respective officers, employees, and directors, from any and all liability, loss or damage of any kind incurred with respect to the awarding and automotive renovation supplied as a prize, receipt, possession, use and/or misuse of any prize, or the participation in the Contest or in prize-related activities.
7. Limitations of Liability: Sponsors and their agents are not responsible for any computer, on-line, telephone or technical malfunctions, delays or human errors that occur in the processing, transmission or receipt of entries, or for inaccurate transcription of entry information, or for entries that are stolen, misdirected, garbled, lost or delayed by computer transmissions. If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of being conducted as planned, including but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or other causes beyond the control of Sponsors, Sponsors reserve the right at their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest. Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify any individual found to be defrauding the entry process or the operation of the Contest, to be violating these Official Rules, or to be acting in a disruptive manner.
